The Florida Green Building Coalition, the state’s leading certifier of green projects, welcomes new member First Green Bank.
First Green Bank, A local bank with a global mission™ is the first bank of its kind to promote positive environmental and social responsibility while operating as a traditional community bank.
The bank’s staff invite you to visit and explore how they can assist you with your banking needs.
First Green Bank has led an impactful and successful charge to prove there is a better way to do business — one that is financially, environmentally and socially responsible.
Inspired by Ben & Jerry’s mission of incorporating a strong sense of social responsibility into its business, founder Ken LaRoe and CEO Keith Costello are the only two leaders and friends in the banking industry to promote environmentally responsible behavior through its own business and employees.
Earlier this year First Green Bank announced plans to build its South Florida headquarters in Fort Lauderdale.
LaRoe started First Green Bank in 2009, making sustainability a fundamental, strategic aspect of the business.
Last year Costello succeeded LaRoe, who will focus on his role as CEO of parent company First Green Bancorp., which is looking to expand by possibly acquiring other businesses.
First Green Bank, originally based in Mount Dora, also recently moved its headquarters and is now based in Orlando. It claimed naming rights to the high-rise building located in the Orlando Business District.
The 14-story title building, which will bear the bank’s name for the next 10 years, is the bank’s new headquarters office and underwent renovations to offer the highest levels of sustainability.
First Green Bank was founded with the philosophy of promoting positive environmental and social responsibility through its own business practices that include lower loan interest rates for commercial projects that meet energy efficiency certification program standards.
“We hope that our transition to the heart of downtown Orlando will bring more attention to the value of community banks,” Costello said. “As First Green Bank grows as a company, so will our commitment to responsible business practices and quality services. Overall, we hope to inspire a movement toward positive change across worldwide companies and their consumers.”
With additional locations in Mount Dora, Clermont, Ormond Beach, Winter Park and, most recently, Fort Lauderdale, First Green Bank offers personal and commercial banking services such as loans, mortgages, checking and savings, CDs, IRAs and money markets.
First Green bank believes sustainability is an important tool to achieve growth.
When the bank completed a renovation of its Ormond Beach branch improvements included the installation of rooftop solar panels, new low e-glass windows, a solar hot water heater and an electric vehicle charging station.
