ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the leading certifier of green projects in the state, has named Lisa Pearcy chairman of the FGBC Commercial Standards Committee.
“We are glad to have someone with Lisa’s experience, knowledge and dedication chair this committee as more developers, owners, contractors and architects consider the Florida Green standard for their certifying their commercial buildings,” noted FGBC Executive Director C.J. Davila.
Pearcy is founder and chief executive officer of 15 lightyears. The firm is the largest Florida based energy performance and testing contractor serving residential, multifamily and commercial projects.
In 2000 the non-profit FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic and research communities to create green standards tailored specifically to Florida.
“Strong and reachable standards for building energy efficiency can help significantly lower energy use,” Pearcy said. “Green building standards, certifications, and rating systems are aimed at mitigating the impact of buildings on the natural environment through sustainable design.”
The recently revised FGBC Commercial Building Standard encourages building owners to adopt green and sustainable strategies during the design and construction of their project and to receive recognition for their efforts.
Benefits of FGBC “Florida Green” certified commercial buildings include increased rents, occupancy rates, resale value, as well as lower operating costs for owners.
“It’s also a healthier environment for tenants and occupants,” added Pearcy.
Unlike national and international certifications such as USGBC LEED and Green Globes, “Florida Green” standards take a scientific approach and are developed with state-specific criteria. They address Florida’s hot-humid environment, distinctive topography, unique geology, resiliency and natural disasters.
The FGBC commercial building standard covers all commercial occupancies listed in the Florida Building Code.
